What is ESG and why does it matter?

Steve Hallowell

Written by Steve Hallowell, Director of Treasury and Investor Relations

ESG stands for ‘Environmental, social and governance. It’s about how an organisation looks after its customers and colleagues. As well as the environment and the communities in which it operates.

In 2021, for the first year, we published a report which summarises our ESG performance. We're an early adopter of the sustainability reporting standard for social housing. This means we're committed to publishing information about our ESG activity every year.

It’s important to us that we’re transparent about this information with customers, colleagues and investors. We also know that our investor partners expect to see this level of information from us. This is so that we can access sustainable and responsible finance.
