To mark the start of construction Home Group was joined by housebuilder The Hill Group at DBP Estate in Colindale for a ground breaking ceremony.
This extensive regeneration project will provide 753 much-needed homes for the community, with over a quarter of them available through Shared Ownership and Affordable Rent.
The development will transform the 1970s estate with high-quality housing surrounded by a central urban square and abundant green open space.
The central square and connected communal courtyards, play areas, and improvements to the adjacent public open space will create a vibrant, connected neighbourhood for new and existing residents.
Landmark project
Will Gardner, executive director of asset and development at Home Group, said: “Local residents have been at the heart of the planning process for this vital piece of regeneration and so we can be sure that the work beginning on site today has the full support of the community.
“We look forward to further neighbourhood engagement over the course of the project, including employment and training opportunities for local people.”
Overwhelmingly in favour
Tom Copley, deputy mayor of London for housing and residential development, said: “It is exciting to see work now begin on this landmark project which will help to ease the housing crisis in the capital as we continue to build a better London for everyone.
“The Mayor has invested £17m into this scheme which will regenerate Colindale and bring much-needed new affordable housing and green public spaces to the area.”
Customers at the DBP Estate voted overwhelmingly in favour of proposals to redevelop the 1970s estate following a ballot in 2019, under a new process devised by London Mayor, Sadiq Khan.
The customer ballot found over 75% of residents were in favour of regeneration, on a turnout of 90%.
