Lake District social housing development wins regional award

Matt Roberts, PR and media advisor
A social housing development on the outskirts of Keswick has been named among the winners of a regional award.
The View, an 11-home development in Bassenthwaite, was named as the Best Small Social Housing Development in the regional LABC Awards.
As part of the development, six of the much-needed affordable homes were delivered by housing association Home Group in partnership with Atkinson Homes.
Looking out over Bassenthwaite valley, and framed by Skiddaw, the homes were also designed with energy efficiency in mind – including solar panels and air source heat pumps.
Much of the learning from this development will be applied to other projects across Cumbria, including upcoming developments in Appleby and Stainton.
All the affordable homes in Bassenthwaite were allocated to local people as part of the Lake District local occupancy policies.
Rosie Edge, Development and Delivery Manager at Home Group said: “We are absolutely delighted to see The View receive recognition. The scheme is a perfect example that you can build high quality, desirable affordable housing which meets the needs of the local community.
“We look forward to taking what we have learned from this development to help us as we continue to deliver affordable housing across the region.”
Richard Thorburn, Development Manager at Atkinson Homes, said: “We’re really pleased to have worked alongside Home Group to deliver these thoughtful and much-needed affordable homes.
“At Atkinsons, we’re passionate about meeting the needs of our community while delivering homes that are both efficient and sustainable. The View’s recognition in this year’s LABC Awards highlights the project’s significance, showcasing how an exceptional location, high specification, and outstanding build standards can come together within an affordable housing context.
“We look forward to building on our strong relationship with Home Group as we continue to deliver high-quality affordable housing across Cumbria.”
