Scottish Housing Secretary visits customers to learn how we are tackling damp and mould

Matt Roberts, PR and media advisor
A Home Group Scotland customer welcomed Scottish Housing Secretary Màiri McAllan to her home to share how we had responded to a damp and mould issue our customer was facing.
Ms McAllan is preparing to introduce regulations, which if passed by Scottish Parliament in October, would see social and private landlords be required to swiftly inspect reports of damp and mould and carry out repairs.
These regulations would be similar to the requirements seen in England since the introduction of Awaab’s Law in October 2025.
In her visit, Ms McAllan met with Home Group Scotland customer Raquel who had noticed damp and mould appearing in her home before Christmas.
Our customer Raquel explained: “It’s my safe space. It’s not only where I live, but where I work as well. That’s why [dealing with] damp and mould is so important.
“They came straight away and took it really seriously. I’ve never had any damp or mould issues before, and luckily everything was sorted before Christmas.”
Bryony Willett, Director of Home Group Scotland, said: “Raquel identified damp and mould in her home back in December and at Home Group, because we’re part of an English company, we have actually been applying [the principles of] Awaab’s Law since it launched in England in October.”
Ms McAllan added: “Everyone deserves to live in a house that’s free from damp and mould. And while 90% of homes in Scotland are substantially free from damp and mould, we want to make sure that everybody is protected."
As an organisation we have made the decision not to use X as a platform. You can view the Scottish Government's video about Ms McAllan's visit here: Scottish Government video
