People from Ulverston being squeezed out of local properties by second home owners are being given the chance to remain in their community.

National housing association, Home Group, which has 10,000 homes for affordable rent across Cumbria, has acquired 22 newly built properties in Levens View in the town.

The eight one bedroom flats, nine two bedroom homes, and five three bedroom homes will be welcomed by residents desperate to remain in the own town.

The first homes are to be handed over to the housing association in mid-June, with customers already preparing to move in.

That first phase of homes will see four one bedroom flats and four two bedroom homes available, as well as a three bedroom home.

Further phases are expected for release in October, and then in August next year, as part of the 22 homes picked up by Home Group.

David Armstrong, Senior Development and Delivery Manager at Home Group said: “It’s great to be able to acquire these homes and make them available for affordable rent. There’s a really high demand for this type of property in the local area, and by taking these steps we can help to further support our customers here in Ulverston.

“One of our company promises is around providing the right homes in the right places, so it was important to be able to secure a range of house types. We recognise how important it is for family homes to be available in the rental market.”
