Week of action makes the difference for Hartlepool estate

Matt Roberts, PR and media advisor
Home Group has worked alongside the council and local community to help rejuvenate our estate in the De Bruce ward of Hartlepool.
As part of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Pride in Place initiative, the week of action saw key issues tackled such as fly-tipping and a drop-in session arranged to hear directly what mattered most from local people.
Starting last Monday with a leaflet drop and customer engagement, it provided an opportunity for customers to share the specific issues impacting them and their families.
This was then followed up with a large-scale estate inspection, identifying much-needed improvements and interventions.
Known issues around fly tipping were identified, and housing managers provided information to customers to support removing waste from customers’ gardens.
There were also improvements to help the local community, such as identifying and requesting the removal of seating areas which were in poor condition.
The week-long initiative culminated in working with local firm Batson Groundcare to remove the fly tipping, and a drop-in session at West View Resource Centre, where customers enjoyed a cup of tea and biscuits as they got to know their local team more.
Throughout the week, Home Group was joined by customers and members of the local community.
Councillor Rachel Creevy also assisted the team each day, providing support for customers needing advice outside of housing and helping to solve challenges such as those with bins.
Sharon Bowman, Housing Manager at Home Group said: “I’m really proud of everything we were able to carry out in the De Bruce area last week.
“I can’t thank people enough to getting involved and helping out. From Cllr Creevy giving up her time to assist us each day to Batson for delivering at short notice, it was a real community effort.
“It can seem like small things individually, picking up litter or sitting down with customers for a chat, but we know these can make the biggest difference when you put it all together.”
Sharon spoke more about the week of action in a video on Hartlepool Borough Council’s Facebook page, which you can view here
