Affordable housing in the region is set to receive a significant boost with 52 homes to be delivered in Sutton.

Housing association Home Group is delivering a range of house types on the site, which is part of a larger 164-home development alongside Vistry.

The affordable housing at the Stirling Cross site has been designed to meet the diverse housing need in Sutton, Ely and the surrounding East Cambridgeshire.

The affordable homes will include two-bedroom bungalows, as well as one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.

Across the scheme, 12 of the new affordable homes will be available under shared ownership, with the remaining 40 homes providing much-needed affordable rented homes.

These affordable homes include a number of larger family homes, reflecting a local need.

The development will also incorporate large areas of open green space, a children’s play area, playing field and a nature trail – reflecting the natural landscapes surrounding the scheme.

Work on the new homes is expected to begin in summer 2025, with completion of the 52 affordable homes by the end of 2027.

Craig Crowley, Head of Development and Delivery South at Home Group said: “We are delighted to be bringing affordable homes to East Cambridgeshire. Like much of the country, there is significant local need which this will go some way to helping.

“With that in mind, it was important to us that our affordable housing reflected the need for different types of homes.

“We look forward to work starting on the site at Mepal Road, and watching the community grow and thrive for years to come.”

Alex Stark, Managing Director at Vistry Group East Anglia said: “We are really pleased to have secured this fantastic site in Sutton and to have agreed a deal with Home Group to deliver 52 affordable homes for local residents.

“Delivering the mix of homes that communities need is critical for our partnership’s strategy and we’re very pleased to have reached this milestone for the creation of a thriving and sustainable neighbourhood at Mepal Road.”
