A woman from Distington has scooped a national award from her housing association recognising her volunteering efforts in the local community.

For the last 24 years, Christine Pattison has volunteered at Distington Club for Young People ensuring young people have access to opportunities.

Christine’s work has helped support a team of 12 volunteers and has been described as putting her life and soul into the local community.

Being named as a 2023 Customer and Volunteer Awards winner by her housing association Home Group, Christine was selected as a standout from a national pool of nominees.

Staff at Home Group received dozens of nominations for Christine from members of the local community, who described how she had helped them through difficult times, into employment and to gain qualifications.

Lots of the community came out to see Christine receive her award, celebrating the huge positive impact she has made in the village through her hard work.

Christine said: “I am overwhelmed to receive this award for doing something I love. I just want to thank everybody for their ongoing support.”

Colette Small, Lead Engagement Adviser at Home Group said: “It has been lovely to recognise Christine’s hard work over these past 24 years with this award.

“She has been able to make a difference to so many people in Distington and beyond, and it is little surprise that the whole community came out to celebrate with her.

“We know for a fact that the community and the opportunities available for young people have been made better for Christine’s hard work.”
