Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans
If you would find it difficult to leave your building in a fire, you may need a Residential personal emergency evacuation plan (RPEEP).
From the 6th April 2026 new Government fire safety regulations start. These changes make sure that customers who may find it difficult to leave their building during a fire can get the right support.
As part of these changes, we might ask you if you need a Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (RPEEPs).
If you think you, or someone you live with, may need help to evacuate in an emergency, please email buildingsafety@homegroup.org.uk or call 0191 594 8978.
Do I need an RPEEP?
An RPEEP might be useful if you:
- Have difficulty walking or moving around
- Use a mobility aid
- Have sight, hearing, sensory or memory challenges
What happens if I tell you I need support?
If you let us know you may need help, we will work with you to put the right support in place.
This includes:
- A person‑centred Fire Risk Assessment (PCFRA) which looks at your needs and anything that could affect your ability to leave your home safely during an emergency
- A Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (RPEEP). A clear, personalised plan that explains what would happen in an emergency and what support you would need.
This process is voluntary. We will always involve you in decisions about your plan.
With your permission, we may share essential information with the local fire and rescue service to help keep you safe. For example, your flat number and the type of help you would need.
Which buildings do these regulations apply to?
The new regulations apply to:
- High‑rise buildings that are 18 metres or more, or seven storeys or above
- Buildings over 11 metres where everyone leaves the building together during a fire. This ic called simultaneous evacuation
