How getting involved helped our customer change their life

Matt Roberts, PR and media advisor
Our customer Sam is just one example of the potential our customers have when they get the right support.
Sam came to Home Group as a customer receiving floating support. This is a type of service we run which helps customers with complex needs who might need a little longer to achieve the goals in their support plan.
Living in Truro, Sam has a learning disability, ADHD and dyspraxia.
Our engagement team got Sam involved volunteering in her region and she has thrived, even recently chairing regional and national meetings.
She has also started leading sessions to support other customers with their wellbeing, sharing the tips and tricks which have helped her.
Sam describes the difference getting involved while a Home Group customer has made for her: “Prior to being supported by Home Group I was at rock bottom. My conditions were getting on top of me, and I thought what’s the point.
“But volunteering with Home Group has totally changed my life round.
“Having the right people supporting you is so important. As I did more volunteering with Home Group my confidence grew, to the point where I felt I could go for a job.
“At my first interview I wasn’t expecting much, but I later got told I had been successful. I’m now working for Thera Trust, which specifically supports people with learning disabilities.
“Had it not been for Home Group I would not be where I am now – happy, confident and in a job I really enjoy. I can’t thank them enough, especially Louise from the engagement team.”
We know Sam is just one of our many amazing customers, and there are many ways to get involved locally.
