Meet our customer board member: Ron

Ron, from Rosyth in Scotland, has been a Home Group customer for over 20 years and is now a board member.

Our board and its members are a really important part of delivering our mission, customer promise and strategic goals. Our knowledgeable board members are passionate and committed to what we believe in. They make sure we meet regulatory requirements and scrutinise a range of activities. It’s essential to us that we have a customer voice who can help us with this work too, and that's where Ron comes in.

Before becoming part of the board, Ron joined his local viewpoint team in 2018, where the team scrutinise our performance in rented, supported and leasehold services across England and Scotland. Ron has participated in and contributed to customer promise assessments, estate walkabouts, customer forums, workshops, conferences, communications and contractors’ meetings across Scotland and England.

“I was invited to a local open day to meet other customers and Home Group colleagues. While I was there, I was introduced to the possibility of joining the viewpoint team.”

With a background in building and civil and structural engineering, Ron is the perfect addition to the viewpoint team. “When I worked in construction, I spent a lot of time inspecting building work – if the  standard was not up to scratch it was not approved by myself and had to be rectified. I’ve always enjoyed meeting other people and being part of the viewpoint team means I can be really involved in communications going out to customers.

I’ve also enjoyed seeing other Home Group communities in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and have been to workshops in Newcastle and Leeds. I have visited the customer service centre, with other Scottish customers, to see how the whole operation is run, it all gave me a good understanding of Home Group instead of just in my local area.”

Ron received a runner-up award for Tenant Participation Champion of the Year Newcomer in 2019 at the TPAS Scotland National Good Practice Awards.

Ron decided to take customer involvement even further when he became a member of Home Group’s board in Scotland.
