Colleagues at Home Group are celebrating after winning the ‘Development Programme of the Year’ award at the UK Housing Awards on Wednesday 2nd May.

Run by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Inside Housing, the awards showcase the very best the housing sector has to offer.

Home Group was shortlisted in six categories and, in addition to its big win, was also part of a collaboration that was highly commended in the ‘Outstanding Approach to Communication’ category.

In winning ‘Development Programme of the Year’, in the over 12,000 homes category, Home Group has been recognised as one of the leading developers of new homes in the sector.

The organisation is currently on target to deliver its goal of building 10,000 new homes by 2021, a strategy that Joanne Gordon, head of bids and partnerships at Home Group, believes has clearly contributed to the award.

Joanne said: “We set an ambitious target when we committed to building 10,000 new homes, but it wasn’t an unrealistic one.

“We know we have colleagues who are more than capable of delivering on our goal, and they all play a huge part in that. I was delighted to accept the award on behalf of everyone at Home Group.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, all of the money we raise through homebuilding is put back into the business to build more affordable homes and provide integrated housing, health and social care.”

In addition to the award, Home Group was also part of a collaboration with partners Riverside UK, St Mungo’s, Hanover Housing and Housing and Care 21 that was highly commended in the ‘Outstanding Approach to Communications’ category (10,000 + homes).

The commendation recognises the work the partnership did in response to government proposals on supported housing funding, which threatened the sustainability of supported accommodation for many vulnerable people.

The campaign played a significant role in the removal of the local housing allowance cap from supported housing by Theresa May in October 2017, placing the supported housing sector on a sustainable footing in the long-term, and continuing to provide the homes and support that vulnerable people need.
