If you work for the public sector already in any way, shape or form, you will know that it is stretched.

If you work in healthcare, you will know that in some places, the NHS is at the limits of what it can do – despite being run on a daily basis by a group of talented and caring people.

Supporting people with mental health illness isn’t something that the NHS can do on its own. The police are probably already being overused for incidents involving mental health, and social care is stretched. So who else is equipped to step in and find solutions to these increasing pressures? Our experience shows us that supported housing has an invaluable role to play.

The fact is that collaborating to deliver mental health services has to be the new normal.

If you know Home Group, you may know that we are one of the world’s largest housing associations, that we are a home builder that also provides homes to over 100,000 rental tenants. And, we have been one of the leading providers of care and support services to vulnerable people for over 40 years. We have experience in working with people with a variety of needs, including mental health, learning disabilities, homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence and ex-offenders.

Today, we specialize in supporting people with mental health issues and learning difficulties.  We can only do this with a passionate team of experts, many of whom have lived experience of mental health.

Housing is a key part of the solution to delivering services for people with mental health illnesses, with organisations like Home Group providing supported housing and services like Patient Activation Measures.

If we are going to implement the five year view on mental health, we need to work together with the NHS and other expert organisations to deliver efficient and effective services that help people to live their lives, reduces bed blocking and gives people independence.
