How Your Application is Assessed

We take several criteria into account when deciding which 'band' your housing need falls into. We base this on the information you provide in your application.

Home Group also uses the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP) room size criteria for social housing tenants.

If you want Home Group to assess your application for a property with more bedrooms than you’re eligible for, this will be considered on a case by case basis, looking at your household circumstances and the local housing situation.

If approval is given, the applicant must show they can pay the rent, taking into account any shortfall in housing benefit. This is simply to prevent our customers from suffering financial hardship.

Once your application has been accepted you will receive a letter confirming which band you are in and you will be placed on our waiting list.

Home Group has the right to reject or exclude applicants.

When properties become available, applicants are contacted in order of banding and the date the application was approved. Before any offer of accommodation can be made, we will conduct a pre-tenancy interview to confirm your details. If you are offered a property, you will receive a formal offer in writing.
