Home Group re-developed this scheme on the north bank of the River Derwent in Cockermouth.  The original accommodation was in a poor state of repair and required significant levels of investment to bring them up to Decent Homes standards.  The existing apartment block for the over 55s required modernisation and refurbishment.  It did not tie-in the character of the area and the size of rooms and condition meant it was no longer fit for purpose. An analysis of the site and its context revealed a number of key factors that influenced the re-development of the scheme, namely its prominent location adjacent to the River Derwent, the quality of setting provided by the Memorial Gardens and its positioning on a key corner site in a highly visible location on the main Gote Road. It was therefore important that the design was of a high quality, based on the understanding of the area.  Home Group, in partnership with Croft Goode, created a scheme which responds well to its context and provided Cockermouth with a signature building.

The three storey height and elevational treatment at Bridge End Court has been made visually interesting by articulating the building using different planes, recessed windows, balconies, different materials and corner features at key positions. Each apartment features a modern kitchen, bathroom and quality flooring leading to its own private balcony.  Outside, a pleasant landscaped area features block paving, seating and greenery in the form of trees and low level planting with a wildlife enhancement.
