Carers UK - Birmingham Branch

According to Carers UK, today there are around 6.5 million people who are carers, supporting a loved one who is older, disabled or seriously ill. They also estimate that there are one in eight adults who are caring unpaid for a family, or friend within their own lifetime.

Most carers have to provide continuous care and support sometimes around the clock, everyday, and sometimes without support or financial assistance. According to Carers UK, carers make a huge contribution to society saving the economy billions of pounds by providing unpaid care. Many carers find themselves in very demanding situations and many carers and families members or care are stretched to their limits, and sometimes juggling employment and trying to maintain some financial stability with reduced employment hours or the absence of income from employment. Sometimes carers are also caring for other family members in a household, adding to increased financial strain with nowhere to turn.

Carers UK do recognise the needs of carers and the difficulties that carers face, a national organisation, they can provide expert information and advice that is tailored to your situation, they also aim to champion your rights and can help support you in finding new ways to manage your home, your work, or any other situation.

The service is also able to ensure that you are adequately supported and help you through a dedicated one to one support service to help achieve the support that you need. Birmingham Carer Support Service aims to work in partnership with other organisations, and regularly works side by side with Birmingham Carers UK, to ensure that carers receive a full range of support from organisations and services within Birmingham.
