Tenant Support Service 

We provide a service to clients of Northumbria Probation Service living in their own tenancies, providing support to families, single people, single parents and older people.  The service endeavours to establish people in new tenancies or support those who are finding it difficult to maintain an existing tenancy.

The service operates in North Tyneside and Newcastle and offers support to people living in Local Authority, Private Rented or Housing Association accommodation.

Client Group

The service helps men and women over 17 years of age and at risk of re-offending, these can be single people, couples or families, people leaving supported accommodation, ex prisoners and those at risk (all referrals must be supported by a Probation Officer).  Fully trained staff will support clients in all aspects of community based living.

Clients must be in receipt of a tenancy, or about to take up the offer of a tenancy. The Service does not find accommodation for clients.

Service Details

The service is committed to ensuring that service delivery is of the highest standard, constantly striving to ensure equal opportunities and non discriminatory practice is carried out at the service.  We also maintain strict boundaries of client confidentiality in accordance with Stonham policies.

Support plans are agreed with individuals and vary depending on individual circumstances. The service also offers practical assistance in advice in daily living skills, claiming statutory benefits etc.  The service also works closely with other local bodies statutory and non-statutory bodies.

Good Work Stories

This service has been of benefit to, in excess of 300 people since its inception 2001, each year we ask our Partnership Agencies for feedback via a survey.  Year after year the feedback is overwhelming in its praise, with the Probation Referrers recognising the enormous benefits to individuals who may have lost their homes without our expert intervention.

This service has regained in excess of £500,000.000 (five hundred thousand) pounds for clients by claiming lost benefits, obtaining grants, applying for benefits, to which individuals were not aware they were entitled.

Team

All employees are subject to CRB checks, in order to assure all of the people who use our Services that our workers are fit for purpose.

This service is also staffed by 2.5 Project Workers.  The Service Manager oversees the day to day running of this service also.
