Former hospital site converted into affordable housing

The first phase of 89 homes at Park Prewett will be completed at the end of 2008, but dozens of families have already moved into their new properties.

This beautifully designed scheme is being developed by Taylor Wimpey to provide 1,021 homes overall, with 131 of these are being allocated to Home and comprising a mixture of houses and flats for both rent and private sale.

All new homes will achieve eco-home rating of ‘very good’ and have been designed to Life-time Home standards, meaning Home residents will not only contribute towards saving energy, they will also save on utility bills.

Home acquired the scheme through a Section 106 agreement with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, which requires private developers to allocate a certain number of properties for affordable housing.  This is Home’s first development with the council.  The scheme is costing £17.6 million, including funding from the Housing Corporation.

Caroline Wagstaff, Head of Housing for Home’s South region, says of the scheme: “We are delighted to be in partnership with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and are extremely pleased with the standard and finish of these properties.  The feedback from our residents is very positive.

“Park Prewett is a very desirable location and we are delighted to offer local people an opportunity to live in an area they may previously felt was out of their reach.  All affordable housing has been pepper potted around the development to ensure a sustainable community flourishes.”
