A rosy future in store for Boldon garden

The Boldon Neighbourhood Management Team, which is supported by leading housing association Home and South Tyneside Council, along with the Young People’s Project have recently taken over the upkeep of a large garden at Prospect Gardens in the town.

Currently in a poor state, the teams plan to turn the site into a large community garden and training facility for local people.

The first thing needed is to tidy the area and knock down some old sheds, which are beyond repair. The Youth Project has some young people on the site to carry out this work but this will take some time.

The garden has been cleaned around the old polytunnel and work will begin soon to repair this important structure. The young people have also cleared a series of paths so that access to areas in the garden was possible.

As soon as the site is safe pupils from West Boldon School will be visiting the garden every week to grow a variety of plants and vegetables in the large polytunnel and raised growing beds. Local company, Tubs and Shrubs from West Boldon, are also working with the project on the site.
