Home has a long and proud heritage.
We were born out of need and responded to the deprivations that faced regions, like the North East, during the depths of the 1930s Depression. The intention to establish an association was announced by the then Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, on a visit to Newcastle in 1935, and was followed by the establishment of the North Eastern Housing Association in December of that year.
In the intervening years Home has accomplished much. Like our customers and clients we have experienced and adapted to all kinds of economic conditions. We were the first association to raise private finance – totalling £100 million by 1993; in 1998 we joined with Stonham who, as a key player in care and support since 1976, offered us additional expertise and opportunities for competitive advantage; from the beginning we have recognised the important difference that small amounts of affordable housing can make to rural communities; and we were a key player in the early development of neighbourhood management approaches to managing whole communities.
We now seek to build on these accomplishments and on our new vision to change what our customers and clients say about us through delivering our brand promise of:
- putting customers and clients at the heart of everything we do;
- creating opportunities for individuals and families; and
- building strong, healthy, sustainable communities.
