Plains Farm is one of twelve areas chosen by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Hazel Blears, to pilot a community charter. A charter is specifically tailored to meet neighbourhood priorities and needs and is a two way contract/agreement which provides a way for communities to get involved and influence the decision making process. Home are leading on the charter and the other partners that are signed up are:
- Home
- Gentoo
- Sunderland City Council
- Northumbria Police
- Plains Farm and Humbledon Community Initiative
- Councillors
- Plains Farm Primary School
- A690 Youth Initiative
- Plains Farm Neighbourhood Watch
In order to assess residents’ views and areas of concern about their home and neighbourhood, and about the possibility of introducing a ‘Neighbourhood Charter’, Home Group commissioned NWA Social Research to conduct a survey of a representative sample of people living on the Plains Farm Estate. Face-to-face interviews were conducted between 25th February and 11th March 2008, with 355 adult residents of the Plains Farm estate who were aged 18 years and over.
Full results can be found in our Neighbourhood Charter Survey Report.
In June 2008 the first Charter for the area, which concentrates on environmental and community safety issues, was launched. A copy of this charter was delivered to all residents of Plains Farm. You can view a copy of the Charter here.
