Home Support

Home Support offers community-based support in your own home.

We can help with a wide range of things including:

  • budgeting and benefit maximisation
  • social interaction and activities
  • life skills
  • dealing with agencies and other services

Our service aims to support you in achieving what you think you need: whether that’s help to get on top of mounting bills or a hand to deal effectively with different professional agencies.

We want to help people maintain their tenancy and prevent homelessness. We can help you whether you own your own home or are a customer of a Housing Association or Council.

Who we are

Home Support is provided by Home Scotland, who were voted Large Housing Association of the Year at the 2009 Scottish Home Awards. We are part of Home Group, one of the country’s largest providers of affordable housing and care and support services. Home manages 55,000 affordable homes and supports over 220,000 people across the UK. We’ve been around since 1935, so we’ve learned a thing or two about enabling people to make a difference to their own lives and their community.

We provide Home Support in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Fife and Dumfries & Galloway. Our support colleagues are experienced, highly trained and fully checked by Disclosure Scotland. Service users are encouraged to get involved in the running of the service to make sure we’re providing the right support. We also have regular social events for service users to meet up and maybe even make some new friends.

Your support

The support we provide lasts up to eighteen months and offers individuals the opportunity to learn new skills and to live independently.

You can ask for our help for yourself or someone you know, or you could be referred by someone else, like a doctor or a Housing Officer.

First visit

At your first visit, we’ll talk to you about what sort of support you think you need, and what you’d like to work on. We won’t come along with a set of answers – but we’ll work with you to find out what your choices could be. We will then agree goals to help you achieve what you want.

Everyone on our service has a Support Plan, which they agree with us. This forms the basis of what we work on with you and it’s regularly updated with the progress you’re making. We’ll set goals to help you get to where you want to be, and review them regularly to make sure they are still right for you.

Signpost

When appropriate, we can also signpost you to other organisations who may be able to help. That means you’ll always get the best help available, even if it’s not one of our specialist subjects.
