Copeland Homes' Board 

The Copeland Homes’ Board takes responsibility for directing the organisation, ensuring that it improves homes and estates, provides quality services and consults with its residents.


Peter Connolly (Chairman) - Copeland Borough Council representative

Mr Connolly lives in Frizington and is Chairman of Copeland Homes and also a member of Home’s Board.  In addition to this he is also a Ward Councillor and was Mayor of Copeland from 2002-2003.  Mr Connolly is a retired schoolteacher and is well known in the area.  He is also Chairman of the Council Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Chairman of the Licensing Panel.  Until recently he was also a Director of Lakes College.  Before entering teaching Peter was a Mining Surveyor.


Margaret Woodburn - Copeland Borough Council representative

Mrs Woodburn has been a Ward Councillor for Egremont for many years and is the Chairman of the Council’s Overview and Security – Social Well Being Committee.  She is also a Director of Egremont Youthworks and Egremont Regeneration Partnership and is the Clerk of Egremont Town Council. She was a Board Member of Groundwork Trust.


George Clements - Copeland Borough Council representative

George is the Ward Councillor for Kells.  He is also an Executive Member of the Council’s Housing and Community Safety Committee, Chairman of the West Cumbria Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, the Copeland Representative on the Cumbria Sub-Regional Housing Forum, representative on the Supporting People Commissioning Body, member of the Council Joint Consultative and Safety Panel and a member of the Parish Review Working Party.  George also takes part in a scheme every year fostering an under privileged child from Belarus for a month. 


Fred Gleaves - Copeland Borough Council representative

Fred has been a County Councillor for twenty years and a Copeland Borough Councillor for some five years for the Millom area.  Fred has been involved in drawing up the tenant involvement compact with tenants and Council Officers and as a member of the Health, Wealth and Safety Policy Development,


Peter Stott – Home Group representative

Peter has worked in housing and community organisations since 1976.   He was Policy and Planning Director at Circle 33 Housing Trust from 1994 to 1998, when he moved to Home Housing Association as Managing Director.   He is now Executive Director of Strategy at Home Group.
 

Bill Dodd - Home Group representative

Bill is the Managing Director of NB21 Ltd, a company providing a wide range of services and support to the social enterprise sector. His inclusive, proactive and enquiring style provides clarity and energy, which leads to a focused direction and results. His company has developed a number of unique socially-based schemes and services designed to help organisations meet the demands of the 21st century. NB21c is also involved in the development, co-ordination and promotion of two large-scale community based projects designed to reinvigorate the Cumbrian economy.


Ivan Ellis - Home Group representative

Ivan is semi retired, being a Director of Central Motor Company from 1999 to present, and a Director of Ellis Davis from 1979 – 2003.

Ivan was educated in Workington before servicing an apprenticeship at as fitter at Solway Colliery.  He is a graduate member of the Association of Mining Electrical and mechanical engineers.  Worked in the motor business since 1977 where we expanded and developed to hang a workforce of 63 staff. 

In 2001 he was invited to Downing Street to meet Mr Blair in recognition for the work and effort he had put into the ‘New Deal’ programme of employment.  He was Treasurer for the NSPCC for many years and is an active member of the local Rotary Club.

Doug Millington - Home Group representative

Doug is retired but has previously been a General Manager of the West Cumbria Development Fund and of West Lakes Properties Limited which included responsibility for the management of a fund with an income of over £1.5M.   He has also been General Manager of West Lakes Properties Limited, which had responsibility for the overall management and development of the Westlakes Science Park and delivery to time and cost of two major expansion infrastructure projects with a capital value in excess of £6M. 

He has key skills in strategic planning, performance monitoring and company management and has had previous Board experience.

Albert Morewood - Tenant representative

Albert is a retired Lt Sergeant from the Scots Guards and has been a Council tenant for 40 years. He currently lives in Mirehouse West.  He has business and management skills and an understanding of residents’ needs and concerns.  He is a keen member of the Copeland Homes Board and would like to bring to the Board the people skills and experience he gained in the army. 


Winnie Hanlon - Tenant representative

Winnie has been a council tenant for 30 years and lives on the Woodhouse estate.  She was Secretary of the Woodhouse Tenants’ and Residents’ group and is a Member of the Housing Management Forum, Cumbria Tenants’ and Residents’ Forum and Copeland Tenants Federation.

Winnie is concerned with residents needs and understands them very well being a Copeland Homes tenant herself.  She played an active part in the stock transfer process.  As well as a Board member, Mrs Hanlon is also a member of the Copeland Tenants’ Federation. 


Peter Stephenson - Tenant representative 

Peter is a member of the Copeland Homes’ Forum and has previously been the Chairman.  Peter is also the Co-ordinator for Neighbourhood Watch.  He is a tenant of one of Copeland Homes’ properties and, as such, has a keen interest in the future of the housing stock, etc.  Peter is a time-served engineer who was employed by Vickers Shipbuilders.


Mary Rothery - Tenant representative

Mary has lived in Cleator Moor all her life and has been a tenant of Copeland Homes for three years. She is interested in getting involved to make sure people feel safe, happy and secure in their own homes.

Mary, who worked as a secretary in a doctor’s surgery before retiring, has been involved with the Cleator Moor Focus Group, which was held by Home Housing, and is a member of the Copeland Homes Residents Forum.
